painting Helpful Painting Tips

The difference between a professional painter and you is the amount of time it takes to complete your project and the clean up. You can do an excellent job, just take your time and all will be beautiful. It will be necessary to do a little prep work before you ever pick up a brush; the time spent will be well worth the effort. People will insist that you paid a professional to do the work.

Here are a few tips for you:

  • Wait until you are ready to start painting before you buy your paint. You want it to be fresh and well mixed.
  • Using aluminum foil or a plastic bag you should line your roller tray for easier cleaning and a longer life.
  • After you have cleaned your brushes, put them in a plastic bag and store them in the freezer; this will keep them soft and ready for the next project.
  • Use a heavy duty rubber band to place around your paint can to enable you to drag your brush over in order to avoid sloppy drips
  • When you take a lunch break, leave your brush in the paint container laying flat on the grid. Also you can wrap the brush in a plastic bag; the idea is to limit the amount of exposure to air that will dry and harden your brush.

The nice thing about painting is that there is no permanent uncorrectable damage. After some weeping you are allowed a “do over” so get busy and enjoy your work.
